After spending the day recovering and visiting the babies with Daniel and my mom, I was looking forward to see Caleb. Daniel went to pick him up at school. Having Caleb around really lifted my spirits. I felt that Caleb all of sudden grew up over the few days I haven’t seen him. He was so happy to see me. He was looking forward to see his two brothers and sister. Caleb was unable to understand why he couldn’t go to NICU. The hospital has a strict policy where he can go one Sunday a month if he is healthy and having an updated shots. We took a stroll out my hospital room. We went down cafeteria and had a nice dinner together. Even our visit was so short, Caleb said he wanted to stay with me. I immediately broke down because what answer could I give him as I also wanted him to stay. I made my son cried because I cried. I was in no good shape to hold it together. Daniel was able to calm both of us and get it together. He’s so good about that. We told Caleb that I will be come home in two more days which was something else he was looking forward to. The high was being able to see the babies making small progress and seeing Caleb. My low of that night was I had a very short visit with Caleb.

The day we learned that all three of our kids have Jaundice.

Not the best start to the day as we came to the NICU and learned that all the weights went down and the Jaundice level on all the babies had risen overnight. Matthew’s bilirubin had gone up so much he was placed under an very bright overhead light to help reduce the levels…I feel like this poor little guy just can’t catch a break. On the other hand, we got our first real hands on time with the triplets even though it was only for a short time. As Tracy and I were talking and she was able to get to hold Lucas…I couldn’t help but think that three days ago all these babies were fighting for room in her belly and just can’t help but be amazed at what she did. Building three beautiful babies at once is nothing short of amazing and then holding them in as long as she did to give them the best possible chance! I couldn’t be more proud of her!

We went to our first meeting “Welcome to the NICU!” where they basically lay out what we can expect of them and what they expect of parents. Good class that helped me get an understanding of what I could expect and why. Tracy was able to attend the first part of the class but because she was still feeling some pretty intense and overwhelming pain, she was not able to sit through the class and Yum took her back to her room to rest.

The highlight of the day was Caleb’s visit! He was so happy to see Mommy and Daddy again and wanted to help take care of Mommy. After being let down that he wasn’t allowed to see the babies,  we walked to the nurses station where they gave him his very own big brother band to wear. Caleb rebounded as we went for a walk together and he was proud to push mommy around. It was extremely hard for us and him to have to separate for the might as he went home and we stayed. Caleb was not able to understand why he couldn’t stay with us and the visit ended on a sad note.

After Caleb had left for the night and Tracy was getting ready to sleep, I returned to the NICU to check on the babies and was able to help out by changing Matthew and helping to give Kacey a sponge bath with the nurse. She understandably did not like the cold but did enjoy having her hair washed.
