I am still sick and unable to help Tracy in just about any way that matters to prevent any chance to passing my cold off to her. Today is the first day she had to go to the hospital and attend to all the babies by herself. It’s a pretty helpless feeling to know how much work had to go into caring for the triplets and then knowing you can’t do anything about it. Tracy attended our discharge class today as I had to reschedule for Saturday due to my illness.

Tracy went in today after dropping Caleb off and took care of everything with some assistance from the nurse. As I’ve said so many times before, I couldn’t be more proud of how strong she is and how much she amazes me everyday.

I did get to speak to Dr Hall today by telephone who told me that the babies are looking good and despite being sick, they are continuing to feed and grow at a healthy rate. He was note that Kacey was growing at a rate just below where they want to see her (14 grams/day and that want to see at least 15 grams/day) but that he didn’t expect that to be a problem going forward. He said that both Matthew and Kacey seem to have shaken their colds and are not showing any symptoms. Lucas still has a stuffy nose but that he seems to be nearing the end as well. The babies will remain in isolation until Friday then will be retested to make sure they are clear of any virus before they are moved back into the main NICU bays. Dr Hall said that Lucas has not had to receive a feeding through his tube in two days now and that the tube could be removed soon. Matthew and Kacey have not needed their tubes for 24 hours now and that they too could be on the list to lose the tubes by the weekend. He also told me that none of the triplets had any Apnea in the two days they have been in the isolation rooms.

The best news that Dr Hall told me was that if the babies continued down this path of growing, eating on their own, and most importantly having zero Apnea’s, that there was a possibility of all three being able to come home this weekend. He could not of course guarantee this and I don’t want to raise my hopes but I’m very excited of just the fact they are talking about it. It means this journey through the initial part of their life in the NICU will be closing and we will finally have our babies at home with us!
